Recessions and post-recession growth. Regression to the mean indicates 6-8% growth in 2010

The horizontal axis shows the weakest quarter for GDP during each of the 10 recessions since 1954. The corresponding point on the vertical axis shows the strongest quarter for GDP during each of the subsequent recoveries.

Based on the regression line, a recession of the current magnitude should ostensibly be followed by an 8%-9% quarterly jump in GDP at some point in the first year.
